Topic: Environmental Exposure Assessment and Health Risks of Emerging Pollutants

Emerging pollutants have become a major environmental and public health concern due to their widespread occurrence, persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and adverse biological effects. These contaminants, including new pollutants, persistent organic pollutants, brominated and chlorinated organic compounds, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, microplastics, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and other newly recognized chemicals, are increasingly detected across environmental media and human populations. Understanding their environmental occurrence, exposure pathways, transformation mechanisms, and associated health risks is therefore essential for effective pollution control and sustainable environmental management. This Special Issue, “Environmental Exposure Assessment and Health Risks of Emerging Pollutants”, aims to provide a platform for advancing scientific knowledge on the sources, environmental fate, human and ecological exposure, toxicological effects, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies of emerging contaminants. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and methodological studies that explore innovative monitoring techniques, exposure modeling approaches, source identification, mechanistic toxicity studies, and risk management frameworks. By integrating environmental science, exposure assessment, toxicology, and policy perspectives, this Special Issue seeks to support evidence-based decision-making and promote the protection of environmental and public health.
