Dr. Sung Woo Kim is William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor at North Carolina State University and University Faculty Scholar by the chancellor of North Carolina State University. Dr. Kim is elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS Fellow) in 2025. During his faculty career, Dr. Kim has developed a world-class and productive research program in monogastric nutrition. The results of his outstanding research have significantly advanced our knowledge about intestinal health and amino acid nutrition, and functional nutrients in monogastric animals. In collaboration with students and scholars, he has published over 315 peer-reviewed papers that are widely cited (Google Scholar, H-index 87) and also recognized for academic excellence (https://research.com/u/sung-woo-kim; D-index 92). Dr. Kim has served and been serving the animal science community as Editor for Journal of Animal Science, Animal Bioscience, Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, Animal Nutrition, Stress Biology, Animals, Animal Advances, and Microbiome Research Reports. His research has been supported with over 14 million US dollar grant funding and cash donations educating 27 PhD and 32 master students as the advisor, 18 PhD and 10 master students as the committee member, 56 visiting scientists, and 5 postdoctoral research associates as the supervisor. In recognition of his seminal contributions to swine nutrition, Dr. Kim has received the AFIA Award in Nonruminant Nutrition Research, Early Career Achievement Award, and Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the American Society of Animal Science; The Vernon Young International Award for Amino Acid Research from the American Society of Nutrition; and Outstanding Research Award from the Association of Asian-Australasian Animal Production.
